Results for Sanger sequencing with group specific PCR primers and at two loci. Note that primers were designed to be inclusive of target taxa (eg Cnidaria) but exclude lobster (Connell et al. 2014)

Colonial radiolarians (Polycystinea) were the most abundant organisms in the phyllosomas from the first East Indian Ocean voyage. (O'Rorke et al. 2012)

On the second voyage Miao found that phyllosomas from cold-core clockwise rotating eddies had more stored energy than those from warm core anti-clockwise rotating warm core eddies (Wang et al. 2015). This should mean that they are better prepared to swim back onshore for the, more familiar, adult phase of their lifecycle.

The eDNA analysis showed that the gut contents of phyllosomas were again dominated by gelatinous zooplankton and fish. However, their was no significant association between immediate diet composition and phyllosoma health. (O'Rorke et al. 2015)
